Welcome to the high school graduation proficiency section of the RI Arts Learning Network (RIALN) site. Below you will find links to PDF documents pertaining to proficiency for individual arts disciplines, as well as a link to student work. The information offered here was developed over a period of years by the professional arts educator associations working on the RIALN proficiency team, and is being continually piloted in districts around the state.
What is the Expectations PDF?
In the expectations document, you will find standards in each domain (creating, performing, responding, etc.), and in some cases suggested types of evidence needed to judge student proficiency in that art form .

In the assessment document, you will find rubrics to help you and your students assess work as they build the body of evidence for arts proficiency.

Dance
Students wishing to use
DANCE to demonstrate proficiency in the fine arts, as required by the Rhode Island Board of Regents, must achieve proficiency in TWO of the following THREE areas (creating, performing, and responding). Proficiency must be demonstrated by a body of evidence, not a single assignment or activity.
Music
Students wishing to use
MUSIC to demonstrate proficiency in the Fine Arts Standard, as required by the Rhode Island Board of Regents, must demonstrate by performance and/or portfolio of evidence, achievement from at least two of the following domains: Performing, Creating and Responding. One of the two must be Performing. Students do not have to achieve proficiency in all three areas, but must achieve the Proficient standard or higher in enough areas to balance any below standard areas. Proficiency must be demonstrated by a body of evidence, not a single assignment or activity
Theatre
Students wishing to use
THEATRE to demonstrate proficiency in the Fine Arts Standard, as required by the Rhode Island Board of Regents, must demonstrate by performance and/or portfolio of evidence, achievement from at least two of the following domains: Performing, Creating and Responding. One of the two must be Performing. Students do not have to achieve proficiency in all three areas, but must achieve the Proficient standard or higher in enough areas to balance any below standard areas. Proficiency must be demonstrated by a body of evidence, not a single assignment or activity.
Visual Arts
Students wishing to use the
VISUAL ARTS to demonstrate proficiency in the Fine Arts Standard, as required by the Rhode Island Board of Regents, do so by producing a portfolio of evidence. Proficiency is determined when a student exhibits consistent and independent performance in each benchmark of the creating and responding assessment rubric. Proficiency must be demonstrated by a body of evidence, not a single assignment or activity.
